The Scotts Valley Sportsmen's Club is here for kids! Our goal is to provide a safe and fun introduction to the shooting sports for all community youth ages 8-17. The Club hosts three events per month running from April - October. All events are free, and all equipment is provided. Please DO NOT bring your own equipment; we prefer students use the gear provided. Bring a flashlight and a warm jacket, and your sense of adventure!
On the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, the Club hosts a Marksmanship Night. This event is designed for the first-time shooter, or those who just want to have fun, using .22 rifles with 'quiet' ammunition. We set up various targets that spin or turn when they are hit. There are two sessions, one from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM and the other from 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
On the third Thursday of every month from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, the Club hosts Continuing Marksmanship Program. This event is designed to teach youth with some shooting experience more advanced marksmanship skills. The course of fire includes various positions (prone, kneeling, standing, benchrest) and shooters will have the opportunity to earn marksmanship badges and medals (Pro-Marksman, Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert and Distinguished Expert.)
On the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, we have the Archery Night. This event is designed for beginning archers. We use Genesis compound bows. We will teach the students the basics of archery and let them shoot at targets on the range. There are two sessions, one from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM and the other from 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
Please note: A parent or guardian must be in attendance with their child at all times, but are not permitted to shoot themselves. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your session. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight, as winter nights can be cold and dark.
You must be registered for an event in order to attend. When you sign up, directions and other information should be emailed to you.
