At the December 2021 board meeting, the Board of Directors decided to change how we charge new member applicants. Currently we do not charge any fees until the applicant completes the Range Safety Orientation, at which time they become probationary members and we charge a $100 initiation fee and pro-rated dues for the rest of the year (or for those completing the orientation in October, November or December we also charge dues for the following year at the same time.)

EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2022 WE WILL BE SPLITTING THE $100 INITIATION FEE IN TWO HALVES AND CHARGING $50 WHEN THE APPLICATION IS RECEIVED AND $50 WHEN THE RANGE SAFETY ORIENTATION IS COMPLETED.

This change is being made to reduce the number of applicants who submit an application, get part way through the process and walk away before completing a range safety orientation. At that point we have incurred the cost of a background check and the online SOP exam, plus the volunteer time of the club secretary and membership committee, all of which is wasted if the applicant decides not to continue through to at least probationary membership.

Invoices for 2022 dues will be in your email in-boxes on December 1st, and payment is due January 1st. We really appreciate all of you who are paying online via Paypal or Credit Card...it greatly reduces the workload of the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer during the holiday season.  We have a handful of members who do not have email, and as always, will be sending them paper invoices via the Postal Service.  (Please click the "Read More" button now.)

NOW would be a good time to check your profile in our database and make sure your address, email address and other information is correct. Did you move this year? Did you get a new email address, or phone number? Do we have an emergency contact to notify if you trip and fall or something on the range?

A group of Club members volunteer each year as an Audit Committee to review the Club's financial reports and records for the prior year. The review of the Club's 2020 financial reports and records is now complete. The Audit Committee's report covers a number of things beyond just finances, and is several pages long. Their summary conclusion regarding the 2020 financial reports and records was, "The Club’s financial records as reviewed by this Committee were found to be in order and consistent with deposits and expenditures. This was determined by doing random spot checks within the system for membership dues payment/processing and invoice payments/processing."

Any member who is interested in the full report can contact me for a copy.

I received the following message from Chuck Michel of Michel & Associates, PC, attorney for and head of the CRPA.

Jeffrey -- huge news: we just had a massive, unanimous victory at the Supreme Court in the constant fight for our Second Amendment rights.

The non-profit Second Amendment Law Center has been active and playing a critical part of the case Caniglia v. Strom – which (now that we won!) reaffirms that it is generally illegal for law enforcement to enter your home and take your firearms without a warrant. While it might seem obvious, this case had to be fought -– and it had to be won –- because it sets national precedent across every state.

Help us secure even MORE freedom-fighting wins at the Supreme Court!

In states like California who constantly seek to destroy our Second Amendment rights with “red flag” and other bad laws, this case is a CRITICAL one that we had to fight. And with more and more legislators in state houses across the country who want to end your civil rights as we know it, we take these issues to the nation’s highest court to stop them in their tracks.

Better yet, we have even more Second Amendment-affirming cases heading to the Supreme Court that we’re actively involved in, too – cases which will REDEFINE the Second Amendment as universal across EVERY STATE. But only if we have the opportunity to win.

Can you help TODAY to support more cases the non-profit Second Amendment Law Center is fighting – and winning?

With deep-pocketed opponents like Bloomberg, we rely on small-dollar donors who agree that this fight for the Second Amendment is worth it!

Can you chip in anything today? Here's the secure contribution link

    Thanks,

    -Chuck Michel

A few weeks after the match each competitor will be assigned their lifetime CMP competitor number to be used in subsequent matches.

The new Bylaws of the Scotts Valley Sportsmens Club, dated March 20, 2021 are now in effect. 808 ballots were mailed out to eligible club voting members (all full adult members not suspended or in arrears on their dues). The vote required that 33.3% of the ballots be returned to constitute a quorum, and we had 352, or 43.6% returned. We needed 66.6% of the returned ballots to be voted FOR the new bylaws, and the results were 348 YES (98.8%), 1 NO, and 3 NO PREFERENCE.

A huge thank you goes out to all the members who took the time to vote and return their ballot!

A copy of the new bylaws can be downloaded from this website by going to the Members Only Tab and selecting Downloads. The bylaws are one of the items listed as available to download.

Until the club has a new secretary, I have temporarily taken over management of the electronic gate keys for the range.

If you have a problem with your gate key, please send an email to treasurer@scottsvalleysportsmen.com

Gate key updates and additions will be implemented twice a month, except when Range Safety Orientations for new members are held.

    Folks,

On December 1st we will be sending out  renewal notices and invoices for 2021 dues.  Please help us out by doing the following before Tuesday, 12/1/2020.

    1.  If you are moving away or not going to renew your membership for 2021 for any reason, please email treasurer@scottsvalleysportsmen.com and let us know, so we don't send you an invoice.

    2.  Log in to the club website, click on your name on the home page and check your membership profile. Make sure your contact information is up to date, and if you are between 18 & 65 years old, not exempt for medical or other reasons, make sure we have recorded if you performed club service (work party or other) during 2020.

    3.  Check to see if your NRA expiration information is correct, and if your membership is expiring, please renew with the NRA and notify secretary@scottsvalleysportsmen.com when your NRA membership has been renewed.
