Winter is upon us and the darkness is coming early. Please while we continue to work on increasing lighting ensure you bring a flashlight for your afternoon sessions. The wet weather has started to come and the rifle range is expected to be slick. Be very careful when walking down past the 50 yard marker.

Since the holidays are upon us as well here are your holiday safety tips: http://www.nsc.org/…/Pages/news-and-resources-holiday-safet…

Thanks to a bunch of hard work by Brannon Schell and Nathan Taylor, we're rapidly catching up on the membership waiting list.  If you signed up for membership earlier than May 2016 and have not yet received an invitation for a New Member Range Safety Orientation, please contact the club secretary by email to secretary@scottsvalleysportsmen.com to check on your status.

Remember, you must have a sponsor who is a current, paid up full member of the club, and you must have current NRA membership registered with the Club before you can be invited to a Range Safety Orientation.  Check your online profile to make sure we have that information and update it if necessary.

Petitions to add referenda to repeal the recently enacted gun laws will be available before and after the Club Meeting on 8/23/16.  Registered voters who reside in Santa Cruz County are eligible to sign these petitions.  Note that there are multiple petitions, but you can sign each petition only once.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO SIGN THE PETITIONS.  PETITIONS ARE AVAILABLE AT BOTH MARKLEY'S IN WATSONVILLE AND THE SANTA CRUZ ARMORY IN SCOTTS VALLEY.

Recently Governor Brown signed into law six oppressive gun control laws that significantly erode our Second Amendment rights. Now there is a petition drive underway to place Referenda on the November ballot to overturn these laws.

There is a very short deadline to get these petitions signed and to the state to include the repeal referenda on the November Ballot. They must be done by September 29th, so THE ORGANIZERS NEED TO HAVE ALL PETITIONS SIGNED NO LATER THAN THE 22nd.

We are now starting to collect and analyze statistics from the gate locks to see how busy the range on a day-by-day basis.  If you enter with a group of people, please be sure to touch your key to the lock even if someone else opened it for you.  This way we can get a truer picture of range usage and we have a record of who was on the range.
